Phi Dinh II lies along side the main road linking the district centre to the Sinh Phinh commune centre, being 8 km far away from the commune centre, and 4 km far away from the district centre. All inhabitants of the village (100%) are H'mong ethnic minority people, living in 21 households with 133 people. Of which 45 people are at working age.

Land resources

Total area of the village is 500 ha, out of which 1.0 ha is of one-crop rice fields; 33.25 ha of upland maize fields; 0.7 ha of plantation forest; 76.2 ha of existing natural forest; and the remaining are 388.85 ha unused and bare land.

Social and economic situations

Main income sources come from agriculture like maize, rice and husbandry. Besides, incomes come from bee keeping and seedlac as well.

Living standards of the villagers are considered as average. Infrastructure is relatively developed such as good roads, clean water supply system, and schools built by funding from the Government.

Project's and other institutions' activities

1997:

  • Participatory Rural Appraisal and Village Development Plan carried out with support from SFDP Song Da.
  • Land use planning and land allocation methodology tested in the village.

1998:

  • Establishment of interest groups for bee keeping (including technical training courses and study tours for key farmers).

1999:

  • Besides support for bee keeping interest group, SFDP Song Da tested measures for green residues management and soil improvement.
  • Establishment of seedlac interest groups.
  • Village Forest Protection Regulation developed and implemented.

2000 - 2001:

  • Activities of seedlac and bee keeping interest groups continued.
  • Handing over of Red Book Certificates to individual households implemented.
